THE ALLEY – We’ve all seen “single-shot drone shots” in our time on the Internet.
It doesn’t seem to be that difficult when you know how to control a drone. You just fly over something beautiful, do some post effects to make the colors stand out, and voila, you have something nice that people love to look at.
Now try adding a story, a script, people, and the many moving parts of a bowling alley, and you realize that all those drone images of the landscape might fall into the “dime in a dozen category.” (No offense; I’d crash a drone in two seconds. You droners are doing a great job.)
Filmmaker Jay Christensen recently released a short drone movie that includes all of the unexpected elements above.
The movie is called “Right Up Our Alley” and shows a typical night at the bowling alley and theater at Bryant Lake Bowl in Minneapolis. And it is all done in one go.
The accelerated tour of the alley is pretty incredible. It starts outside, enters the bowling alley, then slides seamlessly through the entire space for 1 minute and 27 seconds. The film ends perfectly with a landing in the narrow pin return without a single hustle.
In fact, it’s so incredible that it caught the attention of people in Hollywood who know what they’re talking about when it comes to cinema. Lee Unkrich, director of “Toy Story 3” and James Gunn, director of “The Guardians of the Galaxy”, were both blown away
Note: This video can cause motion sickness in some people.
