The former middleweight champion ceased to exist at the age of 66 under unknown circumstances
UNITED STATES – In as yet unknown causes, the legendary former Middleweight World Champion, Marvin ‘Marvelous’ Hagler, died Saturday afternoon at the age of 66.
Bob Arum, the legendary Top Rank promoter, said, “Marvin Hagler was one of the greatest athletes Top Rank has ever promoted. He was a man of honor and a man of his word, and he performed in the ring with unparalleled determination. He was a real athlete and a real man. I will miss him very much “.
Originally from New Jersey, Hagler he made his debut as a professional boxer in 1973 and in 1979 got his first chance at the world championship; however, he drew against Vito Antuofermo.
In 1980 he got another championship opportunity and this time he didn’t miss it by beating Alan Minter by knockout in three episodes to win the World Boxing Association and World Boxing Council middleweight belts.
Once he reached the world championship, he realized characters with the status of Roberto Duran Juan Domingo Roldán Y Tommy Hearns, with whom he played in one of the most exciting battles in the history of this sport, knocking him out in three episodes; however, he fell to Sugar Ray Leonard in 1987 to lose the championship and hang his gloves.
