Heavy snow now heading towards Colorado

DENVER – It’s pretty quiet early on Saturday morning, but the storm is moving and we’ll see a winter mix in the Denver metro area later this morning. That mix turns into heavy snow this afternoon!

We still expect yards of snow along the Front Range, with the heaviest snow in the foothills and the northern Front Range mountains.

Accumulations will still be impressive near Denver, but probably around 12 to 18 inches by Sunday night.

A winter storm warning is in effect early Saturday through Monday morning for the entire Denver metro area, plains, and mountains. Expect heavy snow, poor visibility and dangerous driving conditions this weekend. Many roads are likely to become impassable.

The heaviest snow should fall from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon and gradually diminish to gusts on Sunday evening.

It looks like Denver could see 18-24 inches of snow. The foothills and mountains east of the Continental Divide can receive 24-48 inches of snow. A few mountain locations will end up with about two feet of snow! The Eastern Plains will have a mix of rain and snow, but should receive at least an inch of welcome moisture (melted total).
