Hertog from ACC tournament after positive COVID-19 result within program

Duke is out of the ACC tournament after a positive COVID-19 test within the program, the conference announced on Thursday morning.

The Blue Devils were to play against Florida State in the ACC quarterfinals on Thursday.

The cancellation “follows positive testing, subsequent quarantine, and contact tracking within the Duke men’s basketball program,” a statement from the ACC read. “The team adheres to the protocols outlined in the ACC Medical Advisory Group report, available at theACC.com”

Florida State will advance to the tournament semi-finals to play the winner of tonight’s North Carolina-Virginia Tech game, which will now tip at 8:30 PM on ESPN.

Duke beat Louisville 70-56 on Wednesday to keep hopes for the NCAA tournament alive. The Blue Devils took up residence in Joe Lunardi’s Next Four Out in his latest Bracketology; they had to beat Florida State and maybe get one more victory to receive an at-large bid on Sunday.

With Duke retiring from the ACC tournament, the Blue Devils are unlikely to make it to the NCAA tournament. It would be their first NCAA tournament absence since 1995.
