Phase 1b vaccine eligibility expanded in multi-resident health districts

(WDBJ) – Both Pittsylvania-Danville and Southside health districts are expanding their access to the COVID-19 vaccine for stage 1b recipients.

According to the Virginia Department of Health, the following groups are now eligible for the vaccine, depending on vaccine availability and appointment availability:

-More frontline workers

-Individuals aged 16-64 with certain medical conditions or disabilities that may increase the risk of COVID-19

Previously, both health districts received fewer supplies of vaccine than initially expected, leaving doses available only to police / fire / hazmat, daycare / K-12 school personnel, populations at risk, and adults 65 and older. Increased inventory was delivered, opening the possibility to qualify for phase 1b.

“Now that we are able to reach more of our residents on the pre-registration list to schedule appointments, answer your phone and check your email,” added the director of both health districts, Dr. Scott Spillmann.

Appointment scheduling starts this week.
