259 more COVID-19 cases, 1 death, 2K vaccinations reported Monday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – According to the Utah Department of Health, COVID-19 cases in Utah are up 259 on Monday, with one more death and 2,087 vaccinations.

The state now estimates that there are 13,707 active cases of the disease in Utah. The moving seven-day average number of positive cases per day now stands at 518, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that period reported with the “people over people” method is now 9%. The positive test percentage per seven-day daily mean, calculated with the “test over test” method, is now 4.4%.

There are now 193 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 74 in intensive care units, state data shows. About 68% of all beds in the Utah intensive care unit are now occupied, including about 71% of the intensive care beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals. According to state data, about 50% of non-IC hospital beds are now occupied.

A total of 857,750 vaccines were administered in the state, compared to 855,663 on Sunday. According to the health department, a total of 556,791 people have received at least one dose of vaccine, while 310,327 are now fully vaccinated. A total of 1,006,315 vaccine doses have now been shipped to Utah.

The new numbers indicate an increase of 0.07% in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 2,251,204 people tested for COVID-19 so far in Utah, 16.7% tested positive for COVID-19. The number of tests conducted since the start of the pandemic is now 3,917,828, up from 5,530 since Sunday. Of those, there were 3,083 tests of people who had not previously been tested for COVID-19, according to the health department.

The death reported Monday was a Washington County man who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when he died.

Monday’s totals give Utah 375,109 total confirmed cases, with 14,913 total hospitalizations and 1,977 total deaths from the disease. According to the health department, a total of 359,425 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered.

The Utah government, Spencer Cox, will provide a COVID-19 pandemic update at a press conference Thursday at 11 a.m.
