The doctor passed away last Monday Enrique Octavio Samayoa Moncada, former Minister of Health and former President of the Medical College of Honduras.

It was learned that Dr. Samayoa died in a private hospital in San Pedro Sula, where he was an inmate fight covid-19 since a few days ago.

The death of the former health minister was confirmed by Carlos Umaña, president of the Medical Association of the Honduran Social Security Institute (Ihss) of San Pedro Sula.

“Our condolences to the family and the medical union for the death of Dr. Enrique Samayoa Moncada, former health minister and former president of the CMH,” Umaña wrote on Twitter.

More than 70 doctors infected with the new corona virus have died in Honduras. The medical union is one of the hardest hit by the pandemic, which is why doctors have demanded anticovid vaccines from the government on several occasions.

The National Risk Management System (Sinager) reported last night that Honduras has 173,729 cases of covid-19 and 4,260 deaths from the disease, although the number could be higher.

In late March, Honduras began vaccinating medical and administrative personnel in hospitals after the State of Israel donated 5,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine; just over 2,500 people were vaccinated, but there are still thousands of workers in the US Health waiting for the vaccine.

Last week, the government of Honduras signed an agreement with Russia to purchase the Sputnik V vaccine.
