The nun stands in front of the security forces in Myanmar as a sign of resistance

A nun who went to the police and begged them not to shoot is hailed as a hero in Myanmar.

Filmed on February 28 by the Myitkyina News Journal, a nun – identified by local media as Sister Ann Roza – begged the police not to shoot. She was later photographed on her knees, preventing the police from moving forward.

The nun told Myitkyina News Journal that she decided to risk her life for the citizens of Myanmar. “I feel a pain in my heart when protesters are injured,” she said. “I can’t stand seeing them in pain.”

According to the United Nations, more than 50 people have been killed since the military overthrew elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Feb. 1.
