Bloomberg published a story earlier this week about Nintendo’s plans to release a new Switch model that would be equipped with a Samsung OLED display that less battery, offering higher contrast and possibly even faster response time. It is said to be a 7-inch panel with a resolution of 720p and will be able to support “4K ultra-high definition graphics” when used with televisions.
ResetEra user and well-known insider NateDrake – who has been linked to several other Nintendo leaks in the past, has now expanded this story and claims the new Switch unit will host some select exclusives, especially from external partners.
“There will be some exclusive offers, especially from outside partners. Maybe not many, but I know at least one.”
In a separate post, the same source said Nintendo planned to position the device as an overhaul.
“Nintendo’s plans are to position it as an overhaul. A premium model, if you will.”
If this rumored system brings in a little extra grunt, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see third-party companies in particular looking to port more technically demanding titles that the current Switch would likely struggle with. In fact, there are even some games on the current models that can be used with a much-needed performance boost.
As for Nintendo, if you think about the 3DS era, you know that it has created a handful of titles that are exclusive to the New Nintendo 3DS. Was one of the first Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, which undoubtedly generated some extra sales for the company. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if a Switch revision followed a similar pattern.
At the moment, representatives from Nintendo and Samsung have declined to comment on these latest rumors, and the president of Nintendo last month went so far as to say the Japanese company had no plans to announce a new version of the Switch anytime soon. .
