The classification is carried out by the prestigious Newsweek magazine. The Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv, known as Ichilov Hospital, is in the top 200.

Not only is Sheba the top-rated hospital in Israel, it also tops the list in the entire Middle East. Prof. Arnon Afek, Deputy Director General of Sheba Medical Center and Acting Director of Sheba General Hospital, noted that “we are always looking for something new, something we can add”. In a publication of the institution on its website, innovation and globalization stand out as two of the most important pillars to achieve a high qualification in the international rankings.
The list consists of 2,000 hospitals in 25 countries. The only Latin Americans evaluated were Brazil and Mexico. Hospitals from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada also participated, as well as Israel. Countries were selected primarily on the basis of life expectancy and level. In addition, the size of the population and the number of hospitals have been taken into account. Likewise, the availability of access to the data was central to the process. According to Newsweek, “they stand out for their consistent excellence, with world-class doctors, world-class nursing and the very latest technology.”
Likewise, in presenting the rankings, the magazine specified that the events of 2020 “made it clear that our lives and those of our loved ones may depend on the type of medical care we have access to.”
