The high energy costs of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) have prompted more and more companies to install batteries and solar panels to produce their own consumption sources.
Eduardo Ramos Morán, local president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), said it is an alternative that is not only cheaper, but can also help with blackouts, such as those that occurred just over two weeks ago in northern Mexico. .
However, he noted that most of those who resort to these options are offices and small businesses, demanding energy for lighting, computer equipment and another motor, as in the case of large industries, this is insufficient capacity for the required capacity. high voltage.
“Self-generating cells could barely provide them with the great powers they need,” he said.
He also said that given the lack of capacity the CFE has to power the entire city, as evidenced by the power outage on February 15, more companies could resort to these alternatives to produce what they consume themselves.
“I believe the offices or businesses that don’t need big engines are turning to look at solar panels, although they saw it earlier because of the cost issue,” he said.
According to the company Smart Energy, the reforms in the electricity sector only affect the large power generators and not the houses or companies that have solar panels for their own use.
For a home, with up to four panels, the cost can be 38 thousand pesos, although the investment will be recouped in a two-year period with the savings in electricity costs.
The lifespan of the solar panels is 25 years and although it produces its own energy, you only have to pay 45 pesos for the right to interconnect.
