Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) spokesman in the Chamber of Deputies Gustavo Sánchez said that in addition to the hypothetical construction of “fences” at the border, as announced by President Luis Abinader, Haitians will enter Dominican territory illegally. .
Commenting on Abinader’s announcement that he will build a fence on the border, Gustavo Sánchez also said the president was trying to “confuse” the population by not using the word “wall.”
“To the fence (gate), because they don’t want to talk about a wall, they used a mean word to confuse. If you’re going to build a wall, why didn’t you say a wall, because the walls have been the speeches of the historical ultra-nationalists, of those who live on nationalism and didn’t want to use the word wall and a somewhat finite word. A valley and drones and what do I know because that way a sense of nationality goes unnoticed, but it is not nationalism ”, Sánchez said in a mocking tone.
He also said that apart from the construction of the wall, and because of the general situation in the neighboring country, Haitians will continue to cross the border by other means.
“I believe the dove always flies where there is bread, as long as Haiti remains in a state of decomposition, as long as there is poverty in Haiti, they will be able to build all the walls of the world, but they tunnel to get here, they come with the boot and it is because man’s first need is to survive, ”said the PLD delegate.
In addition, the legislator said that on the issue of vaccination against COVID-19, “one should not ask about nationality” and that, above all, “they are human”, referring to the statements of Chamber of Deputies Speaker Alfredo Pacheco, who commented. on the possibility of inoculating Haitians once the process with the Dominicans is complete.
“When a stranger arrives, I don’t think you should ask about his nationality or ask where he is from to get the vaccine. If this is enforced, it will expose Dominicans to contamination, as the world is being vaccinated the less chance of contamination there will be, ”explains Sánchez.
