Audo Vicente has just joined Leones del Escogido as an assistant to general management led by José Gómez.
“I’m not free to become a manager here because my scouting at the Seattle Mariners prevents me from doing so. The Chosen One knows that,” said Audo, the only Dominican manager to have won three crowns with three different teams.
Vicente came out of several finalists who were interviewed for the management of the Licey, but ultimately disagreed with the lengthy period the blue team took to make a decision.
Licey hasn’t even announced who they’ll eventually choose. They interviewed Audo Vicente, Rafael Oscar Pérez, Carlos José Lugo, Daniel Rufenach, Félix Félix, among others.
Listin Diario asked the president of the Licey, Domingo Pichardo, who the finalists are yesterday, and said the information was reserved. He also added that the Licey would see the case again on Thursday to see if they make the final decision.
Interviewed by Héctor J. Cruz on Listin Diario’s Sports News, Vicente said he had had a few interviews with some of the board and everything was going well. However, as several weeks passed without any news, he decided to speak to Pichardo to let him know that he was retiring as an option for the position.
“I am very sorry, but I cannot wait with that lack of communication,” he said.
He explained that he had contacted José Gómez, the red manager, to tell him he was available. “We spoke, then we spoke to José Miguel Bonetti and we agreed on my return to the Lions,” he said.
In his duties, he will be Gomez’s daily assistant, have an office in the stadium and conduct evaluations of players and scouts.
Audo spent 5 years with Escogido, between 2009-14, twice as champion as coach of Ken Oberkfell and once as champion manager in the 2012-13 tournament. “I have three red rings,” Audo said.
Appointment
Yesterday, the Chosen One’s lions released the following statement:
Audo Vicente is officially back with the Lions of the Chosen One. Since late last week, he was Director of Evaluation and Player Scouting, where he acted as an assistant to General Manager José Gómez Frías in the Operations division of the Scarlet team.
“It is a pleasure for us to have Audo back on the team. His presence now in a talent evaluator role will give us the strength of his knowledge of the League and his proven competence, ”said Lions President José Miguel Bonetti Du-Breil in a press release from the club.
Vicente’s work with the Lions consists of coordinating the team’s player evaluation process, overseeing the team’s scouts both during the season and off-season.
In addition to Audo, the long-haired Jason Cole and Fausto Severino have served as special assistants to the general manager, the first focused on the acquisition of Imports and the second in preparing for the Rookie Draw.
By order of his organization, the Seattle Mariners, Audo will no longer have fieldwork. Vicente has been a Scouting Supervisor with the American League team since 2017.
Prior to Seattle, he worked with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he worked as a manager at various levels, as well as an infield instructor and minor league coordinator.
