Daniel Rivera, the new health minister is from Santiago and the Pucmm

The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, appointed the doctor Daniel Enrique de Jesús Rivera Reyes as the new Minister of Health.

The appointment of Dr. Born in the province of Santiago, Rivera arrives three days after the resignation of his colleague Dr. Plutarco Arias, also from Santiago.

The new Minister of Health, appointed by Decree 132-21 this afternoon, is a graduate of Pontificia Universidad Madre y Maestra (Pucmm) and holds a master’s degree in internal medicine from José María Cabral y Báez Regional University Hospital.

In addition, he has a specialty in intensive therapy, as well as a master’s degree in management and planning of centers and support services at ABC Hospital, American British Cowdray, in Mexico, and a specialty in hospital management in Barcelona. Spain, among others.

He has served for more than thirty years in both the public and private sectors and held various positions at Pucmm, including three times director of the medical career.

According to a statement from the presidency of the republic, Rivera Reyes has been in charge of the regional university hospital Cabral y Báez and is one of the founders of the Clínica Unión Médica del Norte, the main private medical center in the country with more than 600 doctors and where they are treated monthly to 160 thousand people.

The statement adds that Dr. Rivera, in addition to practicing medicine, has held administrative positions in this center, such as vice president and director.

Rivera is currently the chair of the health center’s board of directors since 2018 and vice president of the Association of Private Clinics (Adeclip).

The new health minister was vice president of the Dominican Medical College of Santiago and a senior leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
