The GR Yaris, Toyota’s 257 hp, all-wheel-drive rally homologation sensation, is designed for stage rallies and winding back roads. He is very good with the latter, as we concluded from our first ride review. But curves aren’t the only thing the GR Yaris can do well.
EKanoo Racing, the Bahrain-based tuner responsible for building lightning-fast Nissans, McLarens and Porsches, recently got their hands on a GR Yaris for some development tests. Before making any changes, the company took the car to the towing strip for some base numbers. Turns out the car is super fast straight from the factory.
The trick of the four-wheel drive, the differential locks and low-rev torque allowed him to cover a quarter mile of 12.76 seconds at a speed of 108 mph recently on Bahrain’s GP drag strip. We bet the strip’s tacky, prepped surface helped a bit with launch, but still, that’s tremendously fast for a three-cylinder hot hatch.
We are curious how much faster EKanoo Racing can make the GR Yaris once it starts with adjustments. Given how fast his past efforts have been, we’re sure we’ll see some crazy times in the near future.
