A 500 GB PS4 may no longer be suitable for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone

Activision has said that players with a 500 GB PlayStation 4 may have to “make room” if they want the fully updated versions of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare / Warzone on one system. Call of Duty blog, the franchise publisher wrote: all modes and packages installed. If you have installed both games and are kept up to date with updates, you may need to delete some unused game content to ensure a successful download and installation of the [latest] Warzone patch. “

It is common knowledge that Activision’s latest Call of Duty games take up a lot of storage, but it seems that they will exceed the capacity of a base PS4 as they receive more updates. Without compression, external storage may be the only way for some players to have the entire Call of Duty package on one console. The blog notes that players can click R3 on the main menu of Black Ops Cold War to remove “content you may not have played in a while”, such as the Campaign of Zombies. The same can be achieved in Modern Warfare or Warzone by going to the ‘General’ tab in the options menu and then clicking on the ‘Games Installs’ option. Of course, you don’t need to download the Warzone Season 2 update if you just want to play Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.

This news comes ahead of the Season 2 launch, which will bring a new Zombies mode called Outbreak, new operators, weapons and maps. Zombies also seem to be heading for Warzone, if we are to believe the recent leaks.

In October 2020, Epic Games pushed a patch to the equally sized Fortnite to reduce its storage by 60 GB. At this point, Activision is hopefully looking into similar measures, as this will certainly not be the last Call of Duty update.
