BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. More than 150 new jobs are coming to the Lehigh Valley with the expansion of Weaver Popcorn from Indiana to Bethlehem Township, Northampton County. It is located right off Route 22 on Brodhead Road.
It is their first expansion on the east coast.
“Weaver Popcorn was founded in 1928 by Rev. Ira Weaver. He peeled his own popcorn and sold it to the local community,” said COO Billy Smith.
The family business is one of the largest popcorn manufacturers in the US and supplies popcorn to a variety of brands.
Growing demand during the pandemic has created a need for the new 40,000-square-foot facility, which is still in the early stages of construction and is expected to be completed around the summer.
“During this pandemic we have experienced significant upward growth. And as you know, Justin, people love to sit on the couch and eat popcorn and watch a movie when they can’t get out. about our company, ”Smith said.
The company will create new jobs when many are out of work.
“So about 125 to 175 when we get through the third phase. So we will be able to bring about 175 jobs in total to the area,” Smith said.
