Civil society organizations are asking to suspend the signing of the Electric Pact

The social organizations that have been participating in the process of agreement on the Electricity Pact within the framework of the Social Economic Council (CES) for more than five years, called for the activity called for this Thursday to be suspended in order to sign the pact, because they have not been called for such purposes.

They argue that the presidency of the Economic Social Council must comply with Law 142-15 and respect its own institutional framework and warned the country that the swearing-in of representatives of the farming and trade union sectors is currently underway, which will happen. be exactly the following Friday, a day after the call to sign the pact and therefore the CES authorities have not been summoned or informed of the document being called to sign next Thursday.

In this sense, they have announced that they will appeal to the country’s legal authorities to assert their rights, to ensure the processes and methodology laid down in the Electricity Sector Reform Document and the signing of it. electricity pact established by law. 1-12.

“Democracy is strengthened when the institutions are respected, trust is created in those who make decisions because of their respect for the institutions, the laws and democracy itself,” notes a document sent by the entities.

They pointed out that the law dictates their participation in the signing of the Electricity Pact, so not being subpoenaed for such purposes violates constitutionality.

“We have been amazed to receive the information circulating an invitation to sign the Electricity Pact at 11 am tomorrow at the National Palace,” said a statement.

They understand that the signing of the Electricity Pact must be done with respect for the institutional framework and laws, thus contributing to democracy and governance

“We are calling for tomorrow’s activity to be suspended, as it is a violation, illegal and irregular to the processes and methodologies agreed in the approved paper towards electricity sector reform and that the document is still is still in effect, ”the document points out.

They reiterated their commitment and willingness to negotiate agreements that would allow the electricity pact to be signed in the shortest possible time, while respecting the integration of the different sectors of society as this represents the country’s leap in security and must guarantee energy development. the growth of the economy, but above all social justice, to guarantee fair prices to consumers.
