(CNN) – A new forecast released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) projects between 526,000 and 548,000 deaths from coronavirus in the United States by March 20.
This prognosis is a week longer than previously reported, but the expected number of deaths has fallen. Typically, each new CDC prediction projects a higher number of deaths over a longer period of time.

The previous forecast, published Feb. 17, predicted 559,000 deaths from the coronavirus up to March 13.
At least 502,698 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States, according to information from Johns Hopkins University.
