Arizona homeowners planting tree in backyard find buried duffel bag filled with guns: police

Owners of an Arizona home were gardening in their backyards on Sunday when they discovered a disturbing find: a buried duffel bag filled with guns, authorities said.

The homeowners discovered the bag filled with rusted guns and pistols while digging a hole near the fence in their yard to plant a tree, the Phoenix Police Department saidAfter realizing what was in the bag, they immediately called the police.

The homeowners have handed the weapons over to investigators, who will investigate whether the firearms have been used in crimes, the department said.

Neighbor Yajaira Enriquez told FOX10 Phoenix that the discovery was “nerve-racking,” but also left many questions unanswered.

“Why did you bury them there?” Enriquez said. “Must be a reason.”

The family has lived in the house for the past four years, AZFamily reports. Before that, it had been let to a series of private individuals.
