Buckingham Palace on Tuesday revealed the cause of Prince Philip’s hospitalization, a week after the 99-year-old royal family was hospitalized.
“The Duke of Edinburgh is staying at King Edward VII’s Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention for an infection,” the palace said in a statement shared with HuffPost. “He is comfortable and is responding to treatment, but is not expected to leave the hospital until a few days.”
Sources near the palace previously confirmed that the duke’s illness was unrelated to COVID-19. Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth received their first COVID-19 vaccination in January.

Prince Edward told Sky News on Tuesday that his father is “a lot better.”
“He’s looking forward to getting out, which is the most positive thing, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed,” said the Earl of Wessex.
When asked if his father was frustrated in the hospital, Edward smiled and said “just a little.”
“I think that concerns us all, and then you can only look at the clock so many times and the walls are just so interesting,” he said.
“We have received some brilliant and beautiful messages from all kinds of people and we really appreciate that and he does,” added the early one. ‘I passed them on. It’s fantastic, thank you. ”
Prince William also provided an update on his grandfather on Monday during a visit to a coronavirus vaccination center.
“Yeah, he’s okay, they’re watching him,” William said with a wink.
