Francisco Lindor he still remembers it well and would like to make a new version of it.

“There was a time when in every Puerto Rican league you went to, there was a team called the Mets because there were a lot of Puerto Ricans. I hope this is a new era in which many Puerto Rican teams call themselves the Mets, ”Lindor said in a team press conference using Zoom’s tooling.

The Puerto Rican shortstop, acquired by the Mets at the start of the year, took part in his second day of training with the team this Monday, speaking to the news media about questions about his short stay in the organization, economic expectations and communications. with the players of the team, including talks with the Naguabe-reliever Edwin ‘Sugar’ Diaz and the recipient of San Juan Thomas Nidor, with whom he played with Lindor as a child in Puerto Rico.

Lindor said he remembers the Mets era well with Carlos Delgado and Carlos Beltran, as well as lefthanded reliever Pedro Feliciano, catcher Ramon Castro and infielders Tony Valentin and Ruben Gotay. That team won 97 games in 2006, reaching the seventh game in the National League Championship Series.

Lindor was 13 at the time.

“I remember when I was little I saw Beltrán, Alex Cora, Baerga, the Alomar – Roberto and Santos, son – in the Mets,” added Lindor.

The Puerto Rican era in the Mets lasted from 2006 to 2009 and featured other players such as Cora, Omir Santos, and Nelson Figueroa as well.

Lindor has been asked several times about his negotiations with the Mets, as it is expected that if the organization took him over from Cleveland instead before he became a free agent, it is because it wants to build a long-term relationship with the player.

Lindor replied that there are currently no negotiations and that the time is right for the organization to meet him and vice versa.

“We didn’t say anything. We have plenty of time for that. Obviously, I need to get to know the organization and its people, and they need to get to know me. If anything happens, I’ll talk to my agent. I think it’s too soon to speak, ”he said.

Over the negotiations, Lindor was questioned by the media over the recent signing of the San Diego Padres Dominican, Fernando Tatis Jr., who has just signed a 14-year, $ 340 million contract. The talk about Tatis is related to Lindor, as it is understood that the Puerto Rican could get a similar contract with the Mets.

Lindor replied that he is happy with Tatis and the baseball market.

“It’s an excellent deal. He deserves it and shows that the game is going in the right direction ”, he replied.

Lindor said his arrival in the spring camps has started very well. He explained that he has already begun the process of interacting with his new teammates, both within the field to learn about strengths and weaknesses, and beyond to develop chemistry and leadership. He added that at this point he has not felt the impact of the pressure that a large market like New York puts on the players.

“I haven’t felt the great market experience yet,” he said.
