Wii U Remaster retains top spot for the second week
Nintendo’s recent Switch release Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury enjoy a second week at the top of the UK charts after fending off a sales storm of Electronic Arts’ football simulator FIFA 21Despite physical sales dropping more than 60% in the first week, the Wii U remaster is now conveniently the best-selling new release of 2021 … But we still have a long well done.
The rest of the Top Ten remains relatively stagnant, consisting mainly of big hitters from 2020. Nintendo continues to dominate with steady physical sales of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Ring Fit Adventure, while Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Take-Two Interactive’s Grand Theft Auto V. enjoy new sales every week. Bandai Namco’s Little Nightmares II disappeared from the top ten after just a week, natural movement for a typical niche title.
The first quarter of 2021 is relatively quiet, but the long-awaited RPG sequel will be released this week Encourage absenteeism II, which launches on Switch on Feb. 26. The current climate only mirrors the condition of so many new generations, where an opening burst of launch titles is immediately followed by a period of drought. The release schedule will pick up when we exit the first quarter of 2021.
