President Luis Abinader announced the relaunch of tourism in Samaná yesterday in a meeting with the members of the Cluster, along with the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies, in addition to presenting the Comprehensive Tourism Development Plan for the province.
A committee from the Samaná Tourism Cluster and the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samaná (Ahetsa) hosted the president, along with the first lady, Raquel Arbaje, at Hotel Puerto Bahía.
At the end of the meeting, President Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, presented the details of the plan that will begin with the intervention of the entrance to Samaná, by the Ministry of Public Works, headed by Deligne Ascención; also the renovation of the promenade and some small projects to improve it, both included in this year’s budget.
“The plan reaffirms the government’s support for projects such as the port of Samaná Bay and Arroyo Barril. In addition, there is the renovation of the historic center of Sánchez, with a great heritage that we must protect, ”said President Abinader.
He also announced that a date will be set for each of the projects as the budget is coordinated.
The President also announced the adaptation of the Las Terrenas and Samaná landfills through the Presidency’s special programs and strategic projects. It is expected that the problem of solid waste in the province will be solved in a year’s time.

The president appreciated the comprehensive vision to tackle the reintroduction of tourism and the support the state has received from private banks to develop the sector. “When we support tourism, we think of the hundreds of thousands of Dominicans who live off tourism. We have saved more than 100,000 jobs since August 2020, even as the industry most affected by this pandemic, ”the president stressed.

While Tourism Secretary David Collado announced that President Abinader approved $ 2 million for commercial agreements with the airlines to allow a direct flight from the United States to Samaná.
“More has been done for Samaná in these five months than in many years. This is a clear sign of the government’s commitment to tourism and in particular to this province, ”said Collado.
Currently, the hotel occupancy in Samaná is 76%, he assured.
Last September, the president visited Samaná and asked tourism entrepreneurs in the area to work together to develop a plan to continue to position tourism in the area and benefit all sectors.
Abinader has emphasized the government’s priority to relaunch tourism in this area and the rest and to continue to position the Dominican Republic as a destination of choice for the tourists we receive through ports and airports every year.

The head of state yesterday inaugurated the El LimónPlaya Morón highway in Samaná, announced the first work, built and delivered during his tenure with an investment of RD $ 121.3 million, with a length of 6.2 kilometers.
The work involved the reconstruction of the roads of the accesses to El Limón-Agua Sabrosa- Playa Morón-Punta Lanza del Norte and was built by the Ministry of Tourism, through the Executive Committee of Infrastructure for Tourist Zones.
