It is at 11 a.m. today when the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) announces whether or not its delegates have voted to increase the enrollment of its political committee.
The PLD reported that the process of consultation with the delegates for the IX Ordinary Congress ended Sunday afternoon and they pledged to present the results at a press conference at the time indicated above.
The 2667 deputies started voting on Sunday around 10 a.m. via the online platform of the opposition party.
The organizing committee of the IX Ordinary Congress José Joaquín Bidó Medina of the PLD decided to propose an increase in the enrollment of the Political Committee due to the increase in the number of members of the Central Committee after the elections, which will consist of approximately 1,130 members, which implies an increase of about 78%.
For that reason, they also proposed increasing the membership of the Political Committee by 29 percent to an enrollment of 43 members, to which would be added the president and the secretary general of the party, for a total of 45.
Article 23 of its statutes would stipulate that the “Political Committee is the executive organ of the Central Committee and shall be composed of the Chairman of the Party, the Secretary General plus forty-three (43) full members.”
Disagreement
Last weekend, both the general secretary of the PLD, Reinaldo Pared Pérez, and former ambassador José Tomás Pérez expressed their disapproval of the increase in the registration of that party organ. Pared Pérez said increasing the membership would turn the Political Committee into a “non-functioning body”.
“I disagree with raising the PLD Political Committee’s enrollment to 45, as I believe it would put the said body inoperative,” the still Political Committee member wrote on his Twitter account.
During the month of January, Pared Pérez announced that he would not be reinstated as Secretary General of the PLD and requested not to remain in office, and that he would only be left as a member of the Central Committee, as his state of health he must reduce his political activities.
