With four nominations for the 2021 Golden Globes, including Best Miniseries, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, Undo it leads the Best Limited Series for Television category in the awards to be presented in the United States next Sunday, February 28.
According to IndiewireIn its final chapter, the series garnered 3 million viewers for television, making it the first production in HBO history to see audiences grow week after week as the six chapters air.
Undo it is a free adaptation of the novel You already knew by New York writer Jean Hanff Korelitz. In several interviews, David E. Kelly noted that he took certain literary licenses and made some changes to the television adaptation in order to avoid spoilers and thus surprise people who had already read the book and those who did not know the history.
Led by Sussane Bier, an Oscar winner in 2010, Undo it tells the story of Grace Fraser (Kidman), a successful New York psychologist who, along with her husband, Jonathan (Grant), a famous pediatric oncologist, and Henry, her teenage son, portray the ‘perfect family’. This bubble of privilege will explode the day a horrible murder takes place that involves them directly or indirectly.
From the very first chapter, this classic psychological thriller invites the viewer to play detective to find out who the murderer is and why he did it. But on top of that, chapter by chapter, he will be responsible for confusing and dismantling any theory of how the events happened as they all become suspects.
One of the strongest points of Undo it are their performances conducted by Nicole Kidman and Huhg Grant along with Edgar Ramírez, Noah Jup, Donald Suderland, Matilde de Angelis, Noma Dumezweni and Lily Rabe.
Hugh Grant’s performance stands out for his portrayal of Jonathan Freiser, a charming pediatric oncologist with narcissistic traits and that charming British character that characterizes the actor. The character’s nuances and shadows are also very interesting, as is his evolution as the story progresses.
Characters like this have allowed Grant to stand out from that image of the romantic comedy heartthrob that made him famous and recognized in the 90s. However, it is not the first time he has played a charming and dark character: in 2018 Jeremy Thorpe, the first English politician to be prosecuted for attempted murder, in the miniseries A very English scandal. It earned him his first Emmy nomination.
Although it lacks a bit of power at the end of the series and is less melodramatic in general Undo it it’s entertaining, visually beautiful and it shows on a weekend, because from the first chapter they want to know who the killer is.
