While Respawn’s plans for new Apex Legends content were discussed, Titanfall 2 fans’ hopes that the CAR SMG would return were shattered, but developers also hinted at some good news about weapons coming in the coming seasons.
Obviously, Apex Legends has many ties to the Titanfall universe. With two previous games in the same shared timeline, there’s plenty of resource material for their team to draw from.
One thing that both games share is the arsenal of weapons available to players. Many new spins on Titanfall 1 and 2’s favorite weapons – such as the R301 assault rifle, Mastiff shotgun, and Devotion LMG – have all made their way into Respawn’s battle royale.
In a discussion with fans on Twitter, one of the lead designers of Apex Legends broke some hearts when he confirmed that Titanfall 2’s classic CAR SMG was not coming to Apex (despite previous rumors that it would see a return). But also hinted at what their team has planned for future weapons.

The CAR is another Titanfall 2 weapon that can be added to Apex Legends at some point in the future.
On February 18, the developer tweeted, “You know it’s a good sign when the playtest is over and you wish it wasn’t. We have great stuff to cook.”
One player asked, “Is there any chance my beloved CAR SMG will be in the Apex games anytime soon?” Unfortunately for that particular fan, the Respawn team has no plans to add the popular Titanfall 2 weapon to Apex anytime soon.
“Nothing planned in the near future,” Klein replied, but also shared, “There are definitely CAR fans here at Respawn.” By keeping it cryptic, Respawn is clearly not ruling out anything.
Haha sorry nothing planned in the near future. There are certainly CAR fans here at Respawn too. I think you’ll like what the weapons team makes. Some really cool stuff.

While the developers were hopeful that the powerful Titanfall SMG would appear in Apex, he teased fans with a hint of what Respawn has planned for new weapons in the future: “I think you’ll love what makes the weapons team. Very cool. things. “
In Season 8, Respawn introduced the 30-30 Repeater, one of several weapons not inherited from Titanfall. With other weapons like the Sentinel and Havoc designed specifically for Apex, Respawn has shown they can craft fun weapons without taking advantage of Titanfall’s legacy.
Obviously Respawn has perfected their craft when it comes to creating unique and interesting weapons in the world of Apex, but there are still plenty of weapons from Titanfall 1 and 2 that could return at some point in the future – including the CAR SMG.
