Texas power outages: Katy and Bryan residents use Ford F-150 truck generators to power homes during winter storms

HOUSTON (KTRK) – While Texans face catastrophic events surrounding the winter storm, a handful of people who run out of power at home have used their 2021 Ford F-150s with a built-in Pro Power Onboard generator to get through the worst.

They include Katy and Bryan residents.

Katy’s Randy Jones was without power from Sunday to Wednesday. He powered devices around the house by plugging extension cords directly into his cargo box.

Bryan’s Dan Basile now has power, but he used the 2021 F-150 he’d just bought to heat his home during a power outage.

The stories of both men were shared on a forum for F-150 enthusiasts.

Pro Power Onboard means that F-150 customers have access to an integrated power generator. Pro Power Onboard is available on new 2021 F-150 models. Power is accessible from in-cab outlets and up to four 120-volt and 20-amp outlets in the cargo box.
