A United Airlines flight bound for Hawaii was forced to crash-land shortly after takeoff from Denver, after suffering extensive damage to one of its engines and dropping large pieces of debris over a Colorado neighborhood.

Flight UA328, which was carrying 231 passengers and 10 crew, suffered a serious engine failure shortly after takeoff from Denver, the Federal Aviation Administration said on Saturday. There were no reports of injuries on board or on the ground.

The Boeing 777-200, scheduled to fly to Honolulu, Hawaii, returned to Denver and landed safely about 25 minutes after takeoff.

Police in Broomfield responded Saturday afternoon to reports of objects falling from the sky.

Huge pieces of the plane’s hood could be seen on the lawns of houses.

Additional debris was found scattered across the lawn in Commons Park.

Photos taken from the ground show the jet’s engine on fire and smoke remaining behind.

One man who said he was a passenger on the flight tweeted, “ I’m on UA328, pilots did a great job because it was noisy, shaking and scary here. Firefighters have us on the tarmac. ‘

No injuries were reported on the ground or in the aircraft.

Police are in the process of locating all the debris and are urging people not to relocate any debris they found pending the arrival of officials from the National Transportation Safety Board.
