Packers release former Browns LB Christian Kirksey

The Green Bay Packers have released former Browns linebacker Christian Kirksey after just one season.

The Packers cut ties with Kirksey in an effort to see a salary cap. Green Bay also dumped Rick Wagner’s right tackle after just one season.

Kirksey was the Browns captain and the emotional leader of the team for most of his Cleveland tenure, which ran from 2014 to 2019. “Kirko” suffered injuries in Cleveland and sadly transferred to Green Bay.

From Packers Wire,

Signed to provide an experienced linebacker for former defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, Kirksey wrestled early, missed five games due to a chest injury, and was eventually replaced as the team’s No. 1 linebacker. He intercepted two passes and produced two sacks, but he scored as one of the NFL’s worst inside linebackers at Pro Football Focus during the 2020 season.

The Browns do need a little help with linebacker, but Kirksey’s inability to stay healthy or perform consistently seems to preclude him from returning to Cleveland.
