There were two new cases of coronavirus on February 18, 2021 and eight active cases.
More than 30 people received their second Covid-19 vaccination too soon and will need to receive a third injection before fully immunized.
The Health Department admitted the error tonight and also reported two new cases of the virus from 337 test results.
A health ministry spokeswoman said the ministry had discovered that 34 people had received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine earlier than the 21-day requirement. These individuals have been contacted by the Vaccination Centers and a third vaccine will be offered to them 21 days after the second dose.
Ayoola Oyinloye, the Chief Medical Officer, said: “Steps have been taken to ensure that no one receives the second dose of vaccine before 21 days.
He added: “This happened early in the vaccination process when vaccine recipients made their own appointments rather than having medical staff set the date and time for appointments for the second dose, and Centers for Disease Control guidelines indicated that a grace period of four days was allowed. Public Health England recommends two days. “
Dr. Oyinloye said a standardized public health policy has been implemented by the Department of Health to meet the manufacturer’s guidelines for the second dose administered on day 21 and before the end of 12 weeks.
“I can reassure anyone who has been contacted, there is no evidence that the adverse effects after a third dose differ from the well-documented side effects,” he said.
The first new case of Covid-19 reported today involves a non-resident who arrived on the Delta flight from New York on Feb. 12 and tested positive on their day-four test.
The second new case involves a non-resident who arrived on the Jet Blue flight from New York on Feb. 12 and also tested positive on their day-four test.
No remedial actions have been performed since the last update.
There are currently eight active cases, seven of which are under public health surveillance and one in hospital. Nobody is in critical care.
The Health Ministry also said there is continued high demand for its call center, especially with requests to register to be vaccinated. The ministry apologized for any delays and asked callers waiting to be connected to be patient.
