E. Hondas Street Fighter II bathhouse stage is iconic. On the back wall is a mural with Mount Fuji, a kabuki actor, and the Rising Sun design. The mountain and the thespian remain inside Capcom Arcade StadiumIt’s reissue, but the jet design isn’t.

This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. While the eccentric Rising Sun is still the official flag of the Japanese Navy, its design is controversial, especially in Asia, as it was flown by Imperial Japan. Capcom seems to have decided that it is best not to offend the people in the international gaming community.
In recent years, whenever the design has appeared in popular media, controversy has arisen. For example, when a character was wearing a Rising Sun shirt Bohemian Rhapsody, the outrage sparked its digital disposal, while PUBG‘s makers had to apologize after releasing an item package that appeared to use the same images.
Previously, the jet design was removed in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, but the sun stayed. This seemed to be a fair, tasteful compromise, while the latest version looks rather skewed.
This is not the only change in that Capcom Arcade StadiumAs Pomegd also points out, the flag of Hong Kong fighter Fei Long is now the People’s Republic of China instead of the city’s regional as in 2018 Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection or, as in the game’s earlier releases, the Hong Kong British flag. Pomegd notes that Zangief still has the USSR hammer and sickle.
