JetBlue bans hand luggage for lower rates

The airline JetBlue announced several changes to its baggage policy during the week that would prevent passengers paying the lowest fares from taking hand luggage on the plane.

Known as “Basic Blue”, for those using this rate starting next Thursday, 25, they can only bring a personal item, such as a purse or backpack, that fits under the seat in front of it.

“If you make a reservation from 2/25/21 to travel from 7/20/21 and you prefer to carry your bags in the cabin or store something else in the luggage compartment, don’t forget to get a Blue, Blue Plus rate, Blue Extra or Mint ”, read a statement referring to the other offers they offer.

The exceptions for these cases are members of the airline’s ‘Mosaic’ category, who can travel with a carry-on bag and get priority boarding on all fares, travelers combining a Blue Basic fare with an ‘Even More Space’ seat (at a higher price), active military and unaccompanied minors.

Of all these items, only customers with an Even More Space seat can be guaranteed to take their hand luggage on board.

Starting July 20, on domestic flights within the US, those traveling on a Blue, Blue Extra or Mint fare or purchasing an Even More® Space seat now have our word that their carry-on baggage will travel on board, as long as you meet all requirements.

For other routes, the overhead compartment space is occupied on a first-come, first-served, and availability basis. Those boarding in later groups may be required to check their carry-on baggage at the gate.

Otherwise, all cabin baggage brought to the gate, except personal items, will be charged an additional fee.

The price to pay is US $ 65 (about 3766 pesos), if it’s the first or second checked bag, or US $ 180 (about RD $ 10,431), if it’s the third, according to the JetBlue information page.
