Premio Lo Nuestro promises a great show in the midst of the pandemic

J Balvin, Maluma and Camilo will arrive at the Premio Lo Nuestro ceremony next Thursday as the main contenders for the evening, with 14, 12 and 10 nominations respectively. Ozuna follows them with eight and Anuel AA, Bad Bunny, Karol G, Natti Natasha, Sebastián Yatra and Sech with 7.

The 33rd annual presentation of the Premio Lo Nuestro, held under strict guidelines and sanitary restrictions this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be broadcast live on Univisión from the AmericanAirlines Arena from 7pm in Miami (0000 GMT), with its customary “magenta carpet” “in the prelude program” Noche de Estrellas “.

A total of 147 artists have been nominated in 34 categories and four musical genres (pop, urban music, tropical, regional Mexican), including four new recently added titles: album of the year in pop, album of the year in urban music, album of the year in regional Mexican music and cumbia song of the year in regional Mexican music.

As every year, the organizers promise song premieres, performances by artists of different generations, exclusive collaborations and many unique musical moments.

The show features a tribute to the late Mexican composer Armando Manzanero on the voices of Lila Downs, Alejandra Guzmán and Yuri, accompanied by pianist Arthur Hanlon. The “Caballero de la Salsa” Gilberto Santa Rosa will have a special participation in memory of the idol of that genre, the co-founder of Fania Records Johnny Pacheco, who passed away on Monday at the age of 85.

The popular Mexican cumbia band Los Ángeles Azules, honored with the Musical Legacy Award, is presented by regional Mexican singer Chiquis, rock group Kinky and pop star Gloria Trevi, who is also receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. Reggaeton player Wisin will be recognized with the Excellence Award for 18 years of successful career.

Other artists with scheduled performances include Ivy Queen; El Alfa with Zion & Lennox; Joss Favela with Jessi Uribe; Luis Fonsi; Víctor Manuelle with La India; and Justin Quiles. The actress and singer Selena Gómez will make her debut on Premio Lo Nuestro with Rauw Alejandro to perform her collaboration “Baila with me”.

The three-hour ceremony will be led by Chiquinquirá Delgado, José Ron and Yuri.
