Have you had enough time to recover from the Splatoon 3 hype after yesterday’s Nintendo Direct? Good, because we’re going to dive a little deeper into it.
With both Splatoon 3 and Splatoon 2 launching on the same system, it seems there isn’t that much of a difference between the two, but early signs suggest the new entry will have several new twists that should keep series veterans more than intrigued.
Nintendo shared a wire on Twitter going through some of the game’s finer details, acting on behalf of the ‘Squid Research Lab’ and discussing the ‘video transmission’ – which is what the direct trailer above means. We’ve broken down all the new information for you below:
Splatsville and the Splatlands
Here we see Splatsville, the newly discovered ‘city of chaos’. It has a dated feel to it but appears densely populated. Research indicates that Splatsville’s development has accelerated rapidly since the Final Splatfest a year and a half ago, even though it is a long way from Inkopolis. “

“We have learned that Splatsville is located in a wider region called the Splatlands. It appears that the intense sun and harsh environment have had a profound effect on the inhabitants. In recent years, trendsetting Inklings have been attracted to this culture like moths. to a Bunsen burner! “
Gameplay

Even in the Splatlands, Inklings seems committed to the popular pastime Turf War. The ground rules seem unchanged: two teams of four compete for the most ground ink. However, the residents of Splatsville seem to have fought their battles in the surrounding wilderness. “
“In the Splatlands, Inklings seem to prefer taking to the battlefield by launching themselves from some sort of midair spawner drone. It seems they can even choose their landing site before taking action!”
“We’ve identified two new ways Inklings can move around. An“ squid roll ”allows them to jump out of their ink and spin, and a“ squid punch ”allows them to quickly swim up ink-covered walls and jump out. at the top! Think how these skills can be used in the heat of battle … “
Customization (and pets?)

“It’s no secret that Inklings and Octolings can put their main tentacles in different“ hairstyles. ”However, it seems that these beautiful creatures are capable of more intricate designs than previously known. Just look at this Inkling … a braid! What a day for science. “
“In the new video transmission, an Inkling is seen accompanied by a juvenile salmonide called Smallfry. Our studies have long shown that the salmonids are a dangerous species. How this seemingly symbiotic relationship evolved is an exciting mystery. Further research is required!”
Weapons, new and old

“We’ve also discovered a new bow-shaped weapon. It looks a bit primitive at first, but on closer inspection it’s packed with technology, including a mechanism capable of launching three strands of ink at once!”
“In the video transmission, we also saw some special weapons! In addition to a brand new one, some seem reconfigured versions of special weapons found in Inkopolis. How perfectly suited for the city of chaos …”
“Classic main weapons appear to be viable in the Splatlands, although their appearance appears to have evolved to suit this unique culture. The .96 Gal and Range Blaster look distinctly different from what we’re used to, seemingly making them more distinct from other weapons of the past. same type. “
That 2022 release window looks like ages gone, isn’t it?
