Revelers try to escape on the roof after the illegal nightclub closes

The venue in Birmingham, England, had a VIP room, dance hall and DJ – now £ 10,000 ($ 13,880) fine for breaking the country’s rules to lock up the coronavirus, West Midlands police said.

Dramatic footage released Monday shows officers shouting “police” before making their way into the illegal rave, located near the city’s Jewelery Quarter, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The commotion can be heard in a crowd that realizes that their party has ended quite abruptly. The police were pelted with bottles and a police officer sustained a minor injury.

Thermal images from a police drone showed partygoers trying to escape the venue from the roof.

England is in its third national lockdown, with people ordered to stay at home and mixing households banned.

The illegal party had a bar, neon signs and a dance hall, and officers even ran into a recording studio and gym in the building, police said.

About 70 people were fined £ 200 ($ 278), according to West Midlands police.

Assistant Chief of Police Chris Todd called the attacks on officers “unacceptable” and praised the crackdown.

“Our officers continue to work long and hard to protect the public and reduce the spread of this deadly virus by interrupting these meetings, often in very difficult circumstances,” he said.

“While there is a lot of hope in terms of the introduction of coronavirus vaccines, people should remember that we are still closed and the virus is still a real threat to communities in the West Midlands.”

In a separate incident on Saturday night, police also discovered that a garage workshop in Dudley Port had been converted into a bar – called “The Covid Arms.”
