The origins of iconic rapper Notorious BIG are told in the trailer for Netflix’s new documentary Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell.
The documentary consists of rarely-seen footage filmed by Biggie’s best friend, Damion “D-Roc” Butler, including new interviews with his family and friends.
The late rapper, born Christopher Wallace, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in March 1997, at the age of just 24.

The trailer kicks off with candid shots of the rapper, as he explains: ‘That was all. That’s all it was. Was a dream. ‘
Rare footage from 1995 shows Piggy shaving with an electric razor, with Butler explaining, “My boy gets three hairs, he’s getting nervous.”
Piggy explains that he doesn’t ‘look like I’m 21. I have to keep that 18-year-old feeling ‘while smiling at the camera in a hotel room.

Biggie’s mom, Voletta Wallace, reveals that her son was “ a really smart kid, ” adding that he started writing as early as elementary school.
Another unknown man says he tried to “trim Chris into a jazz artist because he was so talented.”

His mother said he told her he wasn’t working, and she believed him when he started dealing drugs.
Diddy said he told Piggy that if he wanted to rap, he had to ‘commit’ to it and added, ‘you can’t do both,’ meaning he can’t still sell drugs and start a rap career.

Last month it was announced that Notorious BIG will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.
