Ukrainian man invents murder in attempt to get police to clear snow | World news

A Ukrainian man confessed to a fictional murder, hoping that police would clear his snow-covered road if they came to arrest him, regional authorities said.

The man called the police on Saturday evening to say that he killed his mother’s partner by stabbing him in the chest.

“But at the same time, he immediately warned the police that they should come with a snow plow because there is no other way to get to him,” said Yuliya Kovtun, a police spokesman, Monday.

She said officers had not taken a snow plow and could get to the man’s house in an SUV.

“Immediately upon arrival, they discovered that the relative was indeed at the house, but unscathed and unharmed. No one had attacked him, ‘she said, adding that the’ killer ‘immediately confessed to making a fake call.

Kovtun said municipal services had plowed the road earlier on Saturday, but he was “not satisfied with the quality of the clearing.”

The man, from the village of Grybova Rudnya, is facing a fine of up to 119 hryvnias (£ 3) for reporting a false complaint.

Ukraine has recorded record snowfall in recent days, with about 50 cm (20 inches) covering much of the country.
