Zendaya jokes Malcolm & Marie may not be the best movie to watch on Valentine’s Day as she shares snaps from a set of intense drama

She stars with John David Washington in the Netflix movie Malcolm & Marie.

And on Sunday, Zendaya shared some behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot as she joked about how the intense drama might not be the best choice for couples celebrating Valentine’s Day.

‘Happy Valentine’s Day from Marie (if you’re watching our movie tonight with your partner … we’re sorry lol),’ she posted on her Instagram.

Malcolm & Marie is the work of the actress’ Euphoria director Sam Levinson.

Zendaya plays a filmmaker’s girlfriend, played by Washington, and the intimate drama follows the couple as they explore their relationship overnight.

The actress, 24, served as producer on the project and has made every effort to promote it as much as possible on her social media.

‘This is the first time I’ve been a leading lady, but also the first time I’ve been creatively involved in something, producing something, co-financing something, owning something and sharing it all with my crew,’ she explained out in a recent interview on GMA.

The film was shot for 14 days last summer with a crew of just 22.

It was also made in black and white, which Zendaya says gives it a certain ‘timelessness’.

“ There was also a thought about reclaiming the story of black and white Hollywood and black actors who really had their moment at the time, ” she said on the ABC morning show.

‘A lot of filmmakers have done this before, a lot of black filmmakers, so it’s not necessarily a new idea, but we wanted to pay tribute to that era and reclaim that beauty and that elegance with these two black actors,’ she added.
