Halo 7 doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon

As part of a recent Halo infinite question-and-answer session with Quinn DelHoyo from 343 Industries, who works at the developer on the Sandbox team, DelHoyo explained the ways the developer plans to add new weapons and features and the video game in general after release update. While he doesn’t come out right away and says “don’t expect Halo 7 to release anytime soon,” he does explicitly state that the developer has no intention of Halo infinite and just move on to the next.

“Something we’re really excited about is that this isn’t just a Halo game that we’re going to release and then be done and move on to the next Halo title,” said DelHoyo as part of a larger response around 14 minutes into the video about the role of Halo infinite‘s Bulldog shotgun and how other weapons fit in it, “but we’ll always keep checking this game up to date.”

The idea that Halo infinite will receive multiple, continuous updates after release isn’t exactly shocking. Video games – especially those with multiplayer elements – have increasingly seen a shift to something like a live service platform rather than a fully encapsulated release. The Halo infinite people playing at launch can be significantly different from the one people playing a year later. This also feeds into longer periods where no new episode of a video game franchise is released. Just look at the lasting relevance of Grand Theft Auto V. and GTA Online

Halo infinite will currently release later this year for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. The Xbox Series X | S are currently available for $ 399 and $ 299 respectively if you can find them in stock somewhere. You can check out all of our previous coverage of the upcoming Halo title here.
