pitchers Rich Hill and Collin McHugh agree with Tampa Bay Rays

Pitchers Rich Hill and Collin McHugh have signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, according to multiple reports.

Hill, a 40-year old lefthander who has pitched for nine other teams in just over 16 Major League-seasons, was awarded a $ 2.5 million contract. He is 67-44 with a 3.79 ERA in his runs with the Dodgers, Cubs, Orioles, Red Sox, Indians, Angels, Yankees, Athletics and Twins.

The starter was 30-16 with a 3.16 ERA between 2016 and 2019 with the Dodgers and was 2-2 with a 3.03 ERA with the Twins during the 2020 season cut short by the pandemic.

McHugh, 33, has been both a starter and a illuminator for parts of eight seasons with the Mets, Rockies and Astros, with a 58-43 record and a 3.95 ERA. The right-hander signed with Boston in 2020, but withdrew from the short season while recovering from injury.

Hill and McHugh are the latest additions to the pitching staff renewing Tampa Bay after winning the American League pennant last season.

Refusing to exercise the option on right-handed Charlie Morton, the team traded 2018 LA Cy Young winner Blake Snell, creating spaces in the rotation that were filled with the off-season signings of Michael Wacha and Chris Archer.

Hill and McHugh may add depth to both the rotation and the bullpen.
