Dig into Destiny 2’s biggest season of the chosen secret

I think the general consensus for Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen is that it starts off pretty strong. Perhaps not necessarily with the activities, as Battlegrounds are fine, but nothing particularly groundbreaking. But certainly in terms of the loot chase, with a ton of new, good items to chase and a wide variety of places to find them.

We know a certain amount from the roadmap about what is coming this season. Two new Battlegrounds and a new Strike, as well as a promised Tex Mechanica “redacted” exotic quest.

The only thing that has been publicly revealed about the exotic quest is that it has something to do with the ship below, as it was labeled in the press kit as part of the “exotic quest.” But that’s it, there are no other public details of Bungie herself.

But I really wanted to get into the data mining today because I think it’s going to generate a significant amount of hype if you at least know the rough edges of what’s going on here. If you’d rather not know anything, I understand, and you can return now. I won’t get into story spoilers, but I’ll talk about the nature of the quest that is coming up and what you get for it.

Follow spoilers:

This information comes from the Bungie API and people love Ginsor and ParisitoHere are the rough lines of what we know about the quest:

  • The headline is that the upcoming Tex Mechanica quest is supposedly something on the scale of the Whisper mission, or Zero Hour. While the Hawkmoon dam farm had some elements of that, they were still mostly existing areas we’d already been to. This Cabal ship should be a brand new space.
  • It’s quite a lot too big space, from what we know about it, indicating what kind of expansive quest we would expect from a quest like Whisper or Zero Hour. It also has the “do the mission first, then unlock the director’s access” build, as we’ve seen on those quests in the past.
  • Within the mission, there is some sort of “open hidden caches” mechanic to advance slightly faster, perhaps indicating the pursuit of a catalyst or ship.
  • The enemies on board appear to be both Cabal and Scorn, hinting at some sort of conflict there, which would explain the strange appearance of a random Screeb in the Season of the Chosen trailer.
  • There are some indications via upcoming weekly challenges that we May access the ship itself as soon as week 3, but the exotic quest may not start until week 9. So there may be a story component here that isn’t only a secret mission, although the secret mission will take place here.
  • The exotic Tex Mechanics here is Dead Man’s Tale, a new reconnaissance rifle, not First Curse as many predicted. I don’t know yet what the exotic benefits are. The picture below is the gun with an ornament on it.

To sum up, something pretty big is coming and it seems very likely to be on the zero hour scale, even beyond what we saw recently for the zero hour Hawkmoon farm quest. And it will involve contempt, which we really haven’t dealt with since Forsaken. Who taught them to fly spaceships?

Regardless, I don’t regret knowing the above information as it only makes me really hypnotic about what’s to come. We may see this ship appear in two weeks, but if not, all of this will arrive later in the season. Stay tuned.
