As vaccines become eligible for more groups of people, the accessibility of vaccines also increases. This week, the COVID vaccine will be available at more and more pharmacies in an effort to get more guns. Starting Feb. 12, Walgreens pharmacies in 21 states will administer the vaccine in stores to those who qualify. On Feb. 2, Walgreens announced in a statement that they had been selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to administer the COVID vaccine in conjunction with the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. As the CDC explains, the program is a collaboration between the federal government, states and 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks with the goal of making shots more accessible.
Before February 12, Walgreens was already administering vaccines in 13 states at selected locations. Now Walgreens is listing eight other states through doses from the federal government. While eligibility varies from state to state, the groups currently vaccinated include health professionals, people over 65, and those with underlying conditions.
Walgreens was one of the first pharmacies to begin administering COVID-19 vaccinations to staff and residents of long-term care facilities in December, Walgreens president said. John Standley said in the statement. “We look forward to using our experience to support the federal government and CDC in expanding access to these vaccines.”
Since there is still limited availability of vaccines, Walgreens will not administer run-in vaccinations at this time. If you qualify, you can schedule your vaccination appointment through Walgreens’ online scheduler.
