A 16-year-old schoolboy who allegedly witnessed the fatal shooting of Princes Town schoolgirl Tamika Griffith is still in custody.
The boy, a relative of Tamika, was scheduled to be questioned by homicide detectives on Friday.
The Form Four student was detained by police shortly after the incident and reportedly told officers that a man had asked him to keep the firearm for him in exchange for $ 150 a week.
Investigators are looking for the man who allegedly gave the firearm to the boy, as well as the firearm.
Tamika was hit by a bullet from the firearm in her relatives apartment in Sookoo Trace, Claxton Bay.
The schoolgirl, who lived on Corial Road, Iere Village, Princes Town, was staying with family in the apartment.
Police arrived at the apartment around 3:00 PM and met the teenage boy on the premises.
He is said to have initially told police he had gone to a nearby store when he heard an explosion, and when he returned to the apartment, he saw his cousin slumped on the living room sofa with a gunshot wound to her face.
The officers found Tamika slumped on a sofa with a gunshot wound to head above the right eye and gasping for breath.
According to the report, agents placed her on a brown carpet from the living room and took her to San Fernando General Hospital.
She died in emergency treatment.
Insp Ramlogan of the Southern Police Division found a worn-out nine-millimeter case in the living room.
While in custody and in front of his mother, he is said to have told police that a few days earlier a male relative of his had taken a firearm and asked him to keep it for him, and he will be charged $ weekly. 150 are paid to protect it.
He would have told the police that he had put it in a bag in the wardrobe in his room.
Tuesday around 1 p.m. he would have taken the firearm from the closet and showed it to Tamika.
The police report said that while she was holding the firearm, he took it from her when the firearm released and shot her.
Police were told the schoolboy had told the male relative what had happened, and the relative came to the apartment and took the firearm and left.
An autopsy on the body was expected to take place at the Forensic Science Center on Friday.
