The 52-year-old actress joined The New York Times on Thursday for an Instagram Live and revealed that she is currently in the ICU of a South African hospital.

I am “on an IC trauma unit in beautiful South Africa, which took me from Congo: a country I love very much and unfortunately is not equipped to deal with massive catastrophic injuries as I have had she revealed.

Judd described, “And the difference between a Congolese and me is disaster insurance that allowed me to go to an operating table in South Africa 55 hours after my accident.”

Judd explained that the accident happened while she was on a field trip one evening and stumbled upon a tree that had fallen in the rainforest.

The “Kiss the Girls” star said it was a “poignant” 55-hour ordeal in total and that “began with lying on the forest floor for five hours” until she could be evacuated. Fortunately she was with a colleague.

She remembered how she “went into shock” and “passed out” because of the pain, but someone came to lay her leg before her journey to South Africa began.

Judd said she was “carried in a hammock for an hour and a half … by my Congolese brothers, who did it barefoot, up hills and across the river.”

She was then taken to her next location six hours away on my motorcycle, spent one night “in a cabin” in Jolu, was then flown to Kinshasa and stayed there for 24 hours before being flown back to South Africa.
