The Giants cut receiver Da’Mari Scott and defensive defender Shakial Taylor, two players who took advantage of the COVID-19 opt-out clause last season.
Scott had two catches over five games for the Giants in 2019. The Giants claimed to see Taylor from the Broncos last July, but he shut down before ever taking the field in a training camp.
Under the agreement between the NFL and the Players Association, players who have opted out for 2020 and received a stipend of $ 150,000 must repay that cash advance when they are released in 2021. Players who were considered high-risk to sign COVID-19, such as Giants, left the Nate Solder tackle – and given a $ 350,000 stipend, they didn’t have to pay the money back.
It’s unclear whether Scott and Taylor were considered risky.
