Rumor: AirTags on track to launch in March alongside the new iPad Pro

Apple’s long-rumored AirTags could be launched next month, a new leak claims today. This comes after reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported last month that AirTags was on track for release sometime in 2021.

Today’s leak comes from Jon Prosser, who tweeted that AirTags are “still working for March” and that he “has not heard of further delays this time”. He also added one continued tweet that the new iPad Pro models for 2021 are now also on track for March.

AirTags are expected to be Apple’s competition for Tile item trackers. Users can attach an AirTag tracker to, for example, a backpack and find it in the Find My app on iPhone, iPad and Mac. AirTags have been around for over a year now, and despite multiple reports suggesting a release, nothing has quite come out yet.

As for the iPad Pro, several rumors have suggested a release sometime in the first quarter of 2021, and Prosser says that will be March. The mini LED backlight is expected to come first to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, followed eventually by the 11-inch iPad Pro.

Mini LED is a new form of backlight used for LCD screens that offers many of the benefits of OLED, but it can offer higher brightness, improved energy efficiency and a lower risk of burn-in.

The 2021 iPad Pro lineup is expected to be nearly identical in design to the 2020 model. So the biggest change will likely be the display technology shift, plus a new chip likely based on the A14 inside for even better performance.

Last month, we speculated that Apple would have enough new products in store in early 2021 to host a virtual event. What do you think? Will these be press releases for the new iPad Pro and AirTags? Let us know in the comments!
