Supermarket customer slaps employee who tried to enforce mask rule, video shows

This is, quite literally, a slap in the face for key workers.

A grocery store employee in Colorado was slapped in the face by a customer after trying to enforce the store’s mask mandate – and police are now sharing footage of the sexual assault hoping to seize the suspect before she can strike again.

Police say the exasperated shopper entered a King Soopers in the town of Parker sometime before 6:00 pm on Feb. 3, ignoring the chain’s current face-covering requirements. She was asked “several times” to adhere to the policy, but to decline.

Footage from the supermarket’s surveillance cameras shows the woman exchanging words with a supermarket employee, seen behind, presumably in an attempt to enforce the store’s mask policy. The suspect stops abruptly in the middle of the aisle, leaves her cart and walks back to the employee. She slaps the supermarket employee while she is escorted outside.

Afterwards, the suspect had “fled the store” before she could be identified, Parker police said.

King Soopers management confirmed that the woman is a “regular” at the store, but often refuses to wear a mask and claims she has a medical exemption, Fox 31 reports. King Soopers, meanwhile, instructs such customers to find an alternative wear a face cover, such as a shield, or to take advantage of their pick-up or delivery options.

Police say the victim now hopes the unidentified customer can be located and charged with harassment.
