A company reportedly poised to sell PS5 black-themed consoles seems to be leaving fans without both their device and their money.
Earlier this year, we reported that a company called SUP3R5 was selling Black PS5 consoles designed with the look of a PlayStation 2.
Considering that many Sony players weren’t fans of the PS5’s white exterior, this was a dream come true, but an exclusive. With just 304 black PS5 consoles up for grabs, this was a really exciting deal.

But it seems it was also a bit too good to be true. In an update to our original SUP3R5 Black PS5 article, we reported that the company had canceled all of its orders.
The manufacturers cited the reason because there were “credible threats to their security”. They also claimed that all buyers would receive a full refund for their products.
Now it seems that was not the case.
Was the black PS5 console a scam?
According to new reports, many consumers believe that Black PS5 sales have been a scam all along.
Despite SUP3R5 labeling such allegations as “hurtful, confusing and unfair,” some users still wouldn’t receive a refund.
And now SUP3R5 has not only deleted its Twitter account, the website has also been completely shut down.
A Reddit user reports that they are still waiting for their refund from the company, which is no longer easily accessible. Another confirms that they have received a refund, but only by reporting the matter to PayPal itself.

A recent VGC report confirms that the user is not alone in their endeavors as he has also resorted to seeking compensation through PayPal.

Previously, SUP3R5 tried to explain exactly what went wrong with its sales plan. The company called out consumers for pushing “a scam story,” though it claims to understand their concerns:
“We think it is perfectly reasonable to be skeptical of an operation that got underway as quickly as we do. However, we started to see people on Twitter and YouTube actively pushing the scam story, some even claiming to have evidence of this. “
How do I get a black PS5?
SUP3R5 may also return in the future, given previous statements. The company claims they will change it, with a silent invitation-only approach.
Considering that SUP3R5 is currently not present, we would say that in the current situation this is quite unlikely.

Right now, there is another company claiming to be able to produce a black, blue or even red PS5. However, this manufacturer will only sell you a shell of a console, rather than the device itself.
We hope this is a much safer method of getting your hands on the console, but you can never be too careful. There is also a new way to buy specifically Black PS5s, if you still want to spend money on the concept.
You can also do what this parent did, and let your kids color your PS5 console for you. However, given past performance, we do not recommend this option.
