Prepare Pear Logo changes to resolve trademark disputes with Apple

Prepear, a recipe and meal planning app, has agreed to change the pear logo to settle an ongoing trademark dispute with Apple, Prepear co-founder confirmed today iPhone in Canada. Apple opposed Prepear’s trademark application in August, claiming that the company’s pear-shaped logo was too similar to Apple’s own logo.

While Prepear’s logo has a pear shape rather than an apple shape, Apple seems to have taken offense at the right angle of Prepear’s blade in the original logo. The new logo features a blade set at a different angle, a small change Apple apparently feels makes it different enough from the famous Apple logo. Prepear’s app icon has also been adjusted.

After the initial opposition to trademarks, Prepear’s parent company, Super Healthy Kids, launched a petition in an attempt to convince Apple to drop its opposition to a small company trying to protect its logo, and that petition received more than 250,000 signatures. Apple was also widely mocked by media sites and fans for going after the Prepear logo.

In December, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the US Patent and Trademark Office was filed for a 30-day suspension of the lawsuit because Prepear and Apple were “actively involved in the settlement negotiations” of the case.

Prepear’s CEO says the trademark issue has now been “amicably resolved” and Prepear is pleased with the outcome.
